5 Weeks...Memorial Day and Announcements

When we first found out we were pregnant Thursday night, we were planning to keep it a secret from everyone until we went to our first doctors appointment.  But the more we thought about it, we knew there were a handful of people we'd be seeing over the next few weeks that would be very hard to keep our lil secret from.

Joe's parents came to town for Memorial Day Weekend.  When they arrived, we were sitting outside on the deck soaking up some sunshine.  Joe's mom, Linda, was suspicious that I had not enjoyed a beer with Joe and Art.  We went to 101 Beer Kitchen for dinner, where I also did not order a drink, but she thought maybe it was because I was driving (it's only a half mile from our house).  Friday also happened to be Art's 65th Birthday!  The ride over to dinner Art was sweetly reminding us that he wasn't getting any younger and wanted to be around to watch his grandkids grow up.  Little did he know, we were harboring our secret until the end of dinner.  Joe ordered all of us a slice of blueberry pie for dessert.  While enjoying our dessert, we gave Art a card and wrote inside "This year for your birthday we have a special surprise to share."  After a few curious looks, we proceeded to tell them about our exciting news from the previous evening.  It was really nice to get to share this news with them in person since we don't get to see them often.  It was also really nice to be able to share our excitement about the baby!!  It made it feel so much more real.

We spent Saturday afternoon putting up the canopies on the deck and installing the invisible dog fence, all with Papa Lude's help.  On Saturday night, our friends Nate and Callie were coming over for a cookout.  And our friends Geoff and Nicole were also going to be stopping by later in the evening.  I knew Callie was going to notice right away when I wasn't drinking with everyone else.  Knowing very well we'd tell them by the end of the evening, Joe started dropping very obvious hints just to make Callie a little crazy.  The best part is Nate didn't notice a thing!  When Geoff and Nicole arrived we spilled the beans.  They were all very excited for us.

That afternoon I had also sent our friend Laura a text message sharing the big news.  I knew I would be seeing her the next day, but felt like she should know since we were telling our other friends that day.  I sent her a picture of the "Daddy I Can't Wait To Meet You" sign I made Joe with the caption "another one bites the dust".  Seems all of our college girlfriends are pregnant right now, so I guess I joined the prego party haha.  Our summer of Laura and Heather poolside is gonna be a lil different than planned, but we'll still have fun!

Sunday afternoon was spent at The Stimson's (Callie's parents) house for a Memorial Day cookout.  I drank water out of a red solo cup, and I think I kept my secret pretty well.  It will be really fun to tell the Stimsons and the Mayhills since they have become our Columbus family!  I also can't believe we didn't tell our friends Katie and Luke (we even saw them again the next day when they came over to help with the invisible fence), so I think they will be pretty surprised when we do tell them.  Then again maybe they have become more suspicious than we realize?  That evening, we went and hung out with Laura and Andy at their house.  We sat around the fire all night... and there was a lot of baby talk.  Oh how times have changed!! :)

We haven't had the opportunity to tell my parents yet since we would really like to tell them in person.  Right now, our plan is to wait until they are in town in a couple weeks for the Buckeye Country Superfest.  It is going to be really hard not telling them, but it will be worth it when we get to tell them face-to-face.  The funny thing is, we will have our doctors appointment that same week.  So hopefully we'll have more updates to share! :)

As of right now, I feel completely normal.  Aside from being a little more sleepy and hungry than normal (I just woke up from a wonderful two-hour nap), I feel great!  Much to Joe's dismay, I've really had no cravings to speak of.... but there is ample time for that.  I have plenty of energy to do my usual yoga and TRX classes.  It actually makes me feel pretty good to stay active, and I hope it stays that way.  No running as of now, so I am doubtful that I will start again during this pregnancy.

I have a feeling it will be awhile before I have a baby bump!

4 Weeks 4 Days...We're Having A Baby!!!

Last Thursday morning, I woke up with a sudden urge to pee on a stick.  I was not due to start my period for a couple more days, and I honestly thought I was just being crazy.  I had been fighting off a sickness that started the weekend of my sister in law, Nikki’s, baby shower.  The cold seemed to have gotten worse when I went home to visit for Mother’s day the following weekend.  A week or so later, I still couldn’t kick it and I could not figure out what the problem was.  So this brings me to Wednesday night.  I just felt a little off, and I couldn’t get enough water to drink.  I was not working Thursday, and didn’t get out of bed when Joe was up in the morning getting ready for work.  I couldn’t force myself to get up until about 10… at which point I had my sudden urge to pee on a stick.  I almost talked myself out of it, but decided to go ahead so I could tell myself I was silly and move on with my day.  I took the test… and left the room to go let the dogs out.  When I came back upstairs, much to my surprise, the pregnancy test said POSITIVE!! I was shocked, followed by a moment of disbelief, then absolute excitement!!!  I told the dogs they were going to have a lil brother or sister.  Unfortunately, after a lot of tail wagging they weren’t much to talk to!  Haha.  Then I realized I had no idea when Joe would be coming home from work and I would be harboring this secret all day.  I went to yoga, picked up some Chipotle, and bought another pregnancy test on the way home - just to be sure.  Another big fat positive.  Yes, I really am pregnant!  Seems my body has been a little busy, probably the reason I have had such a hard time getting over this cold.

I texted Joe later that day to find out when he would be heading home, and he said he should be leaving around 7.  FINALLY!!  Then Joe called a bit later telling me there was an emergency and he wouldn’t be leaving work quite yet.  The emergency went quick, but the next phone call from Joe is “Hey, Igoe and I are going to Adriatico's for pizza and a beer.  I’ll be home after that.”  At this point, I was getting anxious.  I needed to tell him, but I had to tell him in person.  At around 9, I texted him to find out when he would be coming home since I needed to go to bed soon.  I really wanted to see him since his parents would be in town by the time I got home from work the next day.  Joe couldn’t figure out why I was being so “needy".  Little did he know I had a huge surprise waiting for him at home.

Joe got home around 10, let the dogs out, and came upstairs.  I left him a little yellow sign that said “Hi Daddy!  I can’t wait to meet you!” with the positive pregnancy tests.  He turned the bathroom light on and completely missed my little surprise.  At this point, I was laying in bed giggling uncontrollably and telling him that he needed to go back into the bathroom.  This only convinced him that he had a huge booger or something.  He finally saw my sign, and once he realized this Daddy sign had absolutely nothing to do with the dogs…he said, “WHAATTTT?!?!”  Joe was so incredibly excited and I was so happy I was able to share the news how I did.

We spent the next hour and a half staying up way too late talking about Baby Lude.  We read all about what had been going on in my belly the last few weeks.  Apparently our little poppy seed has been very busy.  Our lives have been forever changed and we couldn’t be happier.  Baby Lude is such a sweet surprise!!

Can you believe there is a baby in there?!
